BMW Motorrad brought the International GS Trophy 2024 to Namibia’s breathtaking landscapes and demanding terrains. This widely celebrated and challenging adventure motorcycling event is the ninth edition of its kind, marking a significant milestone as BMW Motorrad brought it to Africa, the birthplace of the exhilarating event. Twenty-two teams from around the globe embarked on the ultimate off-road challenge against Namibia’s dramatic and diverse landscape. It is an adventure of a lifetime that lasted six days – It united the world’s diverse group of seasoned riders.
Sixteen men and six women navigated a challenging 1,350-kilometer route through the incredible landscape of Namibia. The focus of this event surpasses a mere race. It is an actual test of endurance, skill, and team spirit, portraying the true spirit of the GS community as riders battle everything from dry riverbeds and rocky mountain passes to expansive deserts and towering dunes.
As a prerequisite for earning a spot in this prestigious event, the riders had to first compete in rigorous national qualifying events in their various countries where the three best male riders and three best female riders merit the honor of representing their country as team members. The event was designed so that each participant faced special stages that tested their off-road riding capabilities, navigation skills, mechanical knowledge, teamwork, and intelligence.
BMW Motorrad introduced the BMW R 1300 GS Trophy Competition Bike at the International GS Trophy event. This powerful machine features a 1,300 cc air or liquid-cooled boxer engine, delivering 143 hp and 145 Nm of torque. It also has adjustable levers, engine protection, and robust cross-spoke wheels to conquer the most rugged landscape. The challenges participants faced notably helped showcase the riders’ resilience and the BMW R 1300 GS Trophy Competition Bike’s versatility and ruggedness.
Also, the BMW F 900 GS Trophy Marshal Bike served as the perfect companion for the GS trophy’s dynamic and unpredictable conditions with its 895cc parallel-twin engine that produces 105 hp and improved off-road capabilities, guiding participants through the demanding routes of Namibia.
