A rare beauty indeed - it's a pleasure to have this very collectible RC51 on the showroom floor for sale.
The 2005 Honda RC51 (also known as the RVT1000R in the U.S. or the VTR1000 SP2 elsewhere) is revered among motorcycle enthusiasts. It was developed as a homologation special for Honda's return to World Superbike (WSBK) racing. Its purpose was to compete with Ducati's dominant V-twin bikes under the championship's rule structure.
In the hands of Colin Edwards, the RC51 won the WSBK championship in 2000 and 2002, cementing its reputation as a race-winning platform. The RC51 had an aluminum twin-spar frame designed for rigidity and precise handling. It was paired with high-quality suspension components, including an inverted front fork and a rear shock from Showa.
By 2002, the RC51 was updated to the SP2 version, which included refinements like lighter wheels, improved suspension, and tweaks to the engine and chassis that enhanced its handling and performance.
This 2005 model is one of the later iterations, benefiting from all the improvements Honda made during its production run.
The RC51 is celebrated for its raw, analog riding experience and bulletproof build quality. Its visceral exhaust note, courtesy of the big V-twin engine, adds to its appeal.
Enthusiasts value it as a collector's item and a symbol of Honda's engineering excellence during a golden era of superbike racing.
Production of the RC51 ceased after 2006, making the bike relatively rare compared to mass-produced sport bikes. Its direct connection to Honda's WSBK efforts gives it a legacy that resonates with fans of motorsport
